NSCDC Arrests Suspected Gun Runner and Fraudster in Separate Kano Operations

 The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kano State Command has made significant strides in curbing illegal arms proliferation and financial crimes, arresting a suspected gun runner and a separate fraud suspect in recent operations across the state.

According to a statement released by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Kano, Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, on Wednesday, operatives intercepted a man believed to be transporting illegal firearms during a routine patrol along Murtala Muhammad Way in the heart of Kano metropolis.

The suspect, identified as Suleiman M. Uba, 31, hails from Tashene village in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State. At the time of his arrest, he was reportedly heading toward Kebbi State. Authorities recovered six firearms from his possession, highlighting the success of proactive intelligence-led patrols aimed at disrupting the movement of illegal weapons across state lines.

The NSCDC emphasized that the operation stemmed from credible intelligence and ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of small arms and light weapons, which often fuel criminal activities in the region and beyond. Preliminary investigations are continuing to uncover any broader networks involved in the supply chain.

In a separate but related development, NSCDC personnel arrested another individual suspected of fraud. The suspect, Abbas Lawan Garkuwa, 37, was apprehended at Kwankwasiyya City in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State. Details surrounding the nature of the alleged fraudulent activities were not fully disclosed in the initial statement, but the arrest underscores the command's commitment to tackling economic crimes alongside security threats.
